Posted just below is a poem I wrote at the birth of one of my sons, as part of a little illustrated book I made for him. This is the son whom I often called Little Boy Blue when he was very small. The poem is based on the story of Joseph F. Smith, who, alone and facing an armed gunman, was menacingly asked if he was a Mormon.  Joseph F. Smith’s father, Hyrum had been shot by a mob, as had his uncle, the Prophet Joseph Smith Jr.  Expecting that he would also be shot for his beliefs, Joseph F. Smith famously replied,  “Dyed in the wool, true blue, through and through.”

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ;

for it is the power of God unto salvation

to every one that believeth…
